7 Ways to Keep God in My (busy and loud) Days

Posted on

I know a few amazing people who get up at 5 am, and have time with God before everyone else gets up.

I aspire to be like them.  Someday I will do this.

Someday ~ when I have it all together…

But for now, here are…

1.  Scripture MemoryI have found that as I have less time to sit with my Bible in my hands, it is essential that it is in my brain.  I try to memorize verses that are practical to me.  Maybe it’s just where I am in my seasons of life, but I desperately need practical application over theology right now.  Something I can just grab on to that will help me right in this moment, you know??  I’m doing verses that I can use for me AND my kids, like on selfishness, pride, kindness, etc.

2.  Meditation - I try to meditate on my memory verses throughout the day.  Rattle them around the noggin a bit, seek to apply them to life.  That kind of thing.  This is another reason why I memorize verses relevant to me right now.  Inevitably, I need them throughout my day, so I call them back up to equip me.

3.  Prayer This has become my life line.  Understanding God is the Lover of my Soul was groundbreaking to me.  Everything I would talk to Tony about, I talk to God about.  It’s a constant conversation that helps me with… uh… everything.  Talk to your God.  All the time.  He loves to know you.

4. Talking to my kids - I  try to talk to my kids about God constantly – instruction, stories, answering questions, etc..  It keeps Him at the forefront of my mind and keeps me on my toes, so I can point them back to Jesus.  The book that reformed my parenting was Don’t Make Me Count to Three.  So powerful for our family.

5.  Talking with My Hubby - Job hazard!  Tony is a pastor.  I ask him how his day was… automatically, we’re talking about God.  But, hopefully that goes both ways, with a “Hey, I was thinking about this today…” comment from me.  If God isn’t a big part of your conversation with your spouse, I encourage you to share more about what God is doing with you.

6.  MusicI love Christian music in my home.  I crank up it up when I’m doing dishes, folding laundry, picking up peanut shells (true story – did it today), etc.  It’s so good to let it feed you almost without even realizing it.  And I’ve noticed a lot of it is packed with Scripture.

7.  Bedtime StoryWe do a Bible story and prayer time with our kids every night.  It’s a peaceful and sweet time to give and receive Truth.  Right now we’re going through The Jesus Storybook Bible:  Every Story Whispers His Name.  Super good, guys.  Seriously, pick this one up.  I have been so blessed by it, and so have my kids.

This is what works for me at this moment in this season of life.

I would love tips on how YOU incorporate God into YOUR (busy and loud) days!

  1. I have memory verses written on index cards for both myself and children handy on the kitchen counter. When one of my little sweeties begins to struggle with a sin (right now we seem to be grabbing the obedience verse cards a lot) we discuss the behavior and read through the verse. I also highly recommend the book Don’t Make Me Count To Three. It has been a huge blessing in our family and instructing our children according to God’s truths. Charity, I am so glad you pointed me towards that book. The scripture chart has been super helpful too!

  2. Super job, Super Mommy! It has been so powerful to me to know Scripture alone pierces hearts, changes live, and gives life!
